I can't seem to find any information on this so I'm hoping someone here can help me. My tiger salamander began hibernation a little late, (not sure why), as I've noticed that he burrowed into the ground somewhere in the middle of February. I did not expect him to actually hibernate considering he didn't take action on it during normal hibernation season. but ever since February me and my husband have been pacing around his enclosure from time to time to see if he has come up, however we have not seen any sign of him. I just need to know if we need to be concerned or is this is normal and we should leave him be for a little while longer. I can't seem to find any information on this strange behavior and if he will wake up on time or if he should be waking up at a later time since it was so delayed.
I understand that this is a very tough question but I'm really hoping that someone here to actually help me on some good advice with this. We're just worried about him and we're not sure if this is normal or not and whether or not he is alright. We really would appreciate any help and thank you for taking the time to read into this. :(

Some of mine have been burrowed since late November. He will surface when he is ready. It’s up to you if you want to dig him up or not.

Okay thank you so much for responding. I'm a little more relieved after reading your post, I had no idea brumation could go for that long. I'll mention this one to my husband and let him know the options, but you may be right. It may be best to just wait it out for a bit. I just hope he's okay, until then I'll keep checking up on him to see if he decides to emerge. (After all, he tends to be random with his actions most of the time lol). Again, thank you lots. By the way, adorable picture of your salamander! ^_^

I hope he's okay and just sleeping (I'm sure that's the case).

I heard tigers that hibernate live longer so it's a good thing. :)

My guy has not hibernated at all... The longest he's stayed burrowed is 2-3 days.

I have mixed feelings about it lol. I'm happy I see more of him. I'm sad it may be bad for his longterm health.
