I baught a couple chinese fire belly newts. The day after I baught the second one I noticed some brownish bubble like things in my tank. I quickly googled chinese fire belly newt eggs and I am sure that is what I have. After separating the parents from the eggs I have noticed the eggs have turned clear. So my question is why would the eggs go from being a llight brown almost honey color to being clear? Does it mean that the eggs are dead or does it mean that they are thriving? This is the first time I have had eggs so I am not sure what to expect.

Hello rayray, if the eggs were ok, they would remain as they were from the begining, a white/brownish point rounded of transparent jelly, and you will see clearly the development of that brownish point into a newtpole.

If they turn into other colour I would say they are no fertile.

If the whole egg goes milky, it´s infertile, but if it´s just the embryo, that´s normal.

How old would the eggs have to be before you would see an embryo? I don't see anything in the middle but they are only about 5 days old. I still have two or three brownish eggs. Also all my eggs are different sizes some are kind of big while others are almost microscopic. Is that normal?

Hi, the female will lay a couple of eggs a day, for a couple of months at least, if she's anything like mine, so expect different stages of development at any given time (and differing rates of development in individuals).
It's more the content of the egg than the difference in size of the eggs that would be more noticable, I'd say.
You're confident that the really small eggs are indeed also newt eggs, rather than something else, maybe.
If you could post some photos of the newts and the eggs, that'd be great.
Have you seen the female going through her wonderful egg-laying ritual?

Keep us updated and best of luck

Your description doesn't really sound like newt eggs. They should all be very nearly the same size. Newt eggs start out as a small round ball inside a clear jelly. Photos:

Can you link us the photos you saw that look like yours?

Where did you find the eggs? They tend to lay eggs at vegetations. Your description sound like something else, could it be snail eggs? Or other small aquatic invertebrate?

However it is reasonable that newly introduced animals could start laying eggs, as sometime the change of environment leads them to believe it as a change of season. Eggs wouldn't turn clear unless they are hatched out. Maybe you can look for larvae in the tank or container.

I apreciate everyone's help. The only things I have in the tank are the 2 CFBN and some feeder guppies. I have raised guppies before so I know they are not guppies. There are absolutely no snails in the terrarium. The eggs were on vegitation and the gravel and for some reason on the side of the tank but under the water. I can see something starting to form in a few of the eggs. It looks like it may be a white or a lighter color line, but what I am seeing are in the eggs that didn't turn clear.

This is the site where I saw the picture. It's the one toward the bottom of the page with the plants and one egg. I am sure that what I have are newt eggs. There is nothing else in the tank that could have laid them. Also I have raised snails too and these are not arranged like snail eggs.
