I figure this has already been posted, but didn't show up on the search.

I have a bare bottom tank, but would like to make the tank a more enriching environment. What are some plants that are safe for lotls, and will do well in a bare bottomed tank? Also, not needing too much light would be a plus.

Thanks in advance!! Oh also, if anyone would like to post a pic of their planted tank I would love to see them too :D

I would go with maybe some java fern or java moss. Marimo moss balls are also pretty cool. all of these do not need much light and are hard to kill. the java fern should be attached to anything and not buried. this allows you to keep the bare bottom tank.

Another option would be to use some glass jars or some 'shot' glasses and plant your plants in there :D

Floating plants will do well such as elodea, hornwort, mini water lettuce, water soldiers.

But as said above marimo moss balls dont need planting and look quite cool :p
Or you could attach some anubias and some java moss to driftwood/coconut husks and it will grow on there.

Okay, so I went and purchased what was available at petsmart (which wasn't a very good selection). I bought a java fern, and a Marimo ball. I took a few rocks and wedged the java fern in the corner of the tank. The marimo ball just laid there lol, I figure thats right!

Thanks for y'alls help! Hopefully this will help with my water quality!
