Plants In my tank?

So i stupidly bought a few "water plants" from petco without doing my research first. One of them is called an Aluminum plant. I have a 10 gallon tank with 3 eastern newts and they love the plants, but unfortunately I found out that they're not even suppose to be in the water and is just a common house plant. So i took them out and now my newts aren't as active as before. I was just wondering if someone could help me out. What plants are good in aquatic tanks and where to find them??? Any help would be greatly appreciated
