So I've decided to upgrade my newt's habitat and want to add some live plants. So what so I need to know? I keep my tank 60-65 F typically, what plants can handle that and also the low current? If i get java fern and java moss can I can just use the light I have now or do i need actual grow lights? Also thought about adding a few cherry shrimp, can they survive these parameters? Will they bother the notos? Sorry for having so many questions, but you guys have been very helpful!

You can pickup some anacharis (elodea) from your local pet store. They look like sorta like seaweed, but the notos just love climbing through them/on top of them like a jungle in the water. They are easy to take care of, won't require much light, and pretty much grow in any type of water. You can leave them floating in the water, or planted.

If you're lucky to find at your local pet store you can consider vallisneria spiralis. They are a sort of tall grass like plant, great for backgrounds. Grows in any water condition like the plant above, and you can trim the leaves to any size and it will still grow.

I've also read that notos love to lay eggs on a plant called bacopa carolina. Again, this plant is easy to take care of and it provides large leaves for the eggs to be laid onto.

These are just a few plants that do great in a noto tank, you're not limited to just these 3 plants. But they are great option in my opinion.

And red cherry shrimps will be fine as long as you have a big enough tank for them to roam around with the newts. Newts may try to eat them if they are cramped, but the shrimps are fast enough to get away usually. Ghost shrimps are great too, and my newts barely notice my ghost shrimp. (I can't even find it half the time)

PS: I would avoid getting aquarium plants meant for fish tanks that are sold in the pet stores, they usually require a certain temperature / water ph level / some form of CO2 to thrive.
