I want to buy a live plant for my fire salamander tank. I have always done well with pothos but I was hoping to get something different this time. I want something that's safe, looks cool, long lasting and is easy to buy. Thanks.

I don't have a specific suggestion, but I would caution anyone reading this to think carefully about the purchase of plants for amphibian setups. Most plants sold commercially have been treated with (or grown in) substances that you probably don't want to introduce into the terrarium. The potting soil often contains little styrofoam balls and fertilizers. And the plants may be treated with pesticides. It is best to rinse the entire plant, re-pot in soil that you trust, and if possible let the plant grow for a couple of months outside the terrarium before introducing it.

Yeah I'm well aware of that don't worry haha. That would go under the "safe" requirement.

How about ferns? Anybody have any experience with any type of them? The store near me has asparagus ferns that look neat.
