Planting Elodia

If i wanted to plant elodia in pots with two strands in each pot, can I just cut the strand in half? Does it matter which way up it goes?

Are you talking about American waterweed (Elodea canadensis)? If so you want to plant the the bottom of where you trimmed it into the pot. The top is the part where the very tip of the plant has leaves growing on it.
Heres a pic

In your pots i suggest the botom layer to be gravel, 1/4 the way up, the next layer to be filter wool again 1/4 the way up the the rest of the way up with gravel again, or sand. If gravel it must be under 1-2mm in diamater. What do you mean cutit in half, you mean seperate or actualy slice it?. If your seperating it i see no problem but there is not a good succes rate, about 70%, jsut cut the tip of and plant that (about 5-10cm).

Stipe as per the copyright laws and the TOS for the site, I deleted the picture. You either need to post a link to the person's picture or have thier permission to post the picture.

I mean actually slice it. The strands are really long. I did it without thinking and planted some of it upsidedown (sometimes my stupidity scares me). I will go and put it right way up tomorrow and make sure the cut side is in the pot. I have put filterwool and sand in the pots... would that be ok? (yes- that is the plant)

Yes thats perfect. I thought you ment slice the plant down the middle or the shoot (some times my stupidity scares me). If you slicing it to seperate the strands, then there is no problems. If you want good plant growth place a fertilizer tablet in the pot.

Stipe is that a picture you personally took of the elodea?

Ed will just be wary because it could/does breach copyright laws. As its hosted on caudata, it means that they could be liable - because the pic is technically on their servers. Understandable concern, might just be easiest to take a picture yourself Stipe.

Yes, you either need to post a link or have the permission of the person before you post pictures that are not yours on this site. This is because of the laws around copyright theft. I removed the picture from your post above.
