i just bought dick bartlett's (and his wife's) book 'designer reptiles and amphibians'. there is a mention in there of other than in axolotls, piebaldism has only ever been seen in an amphiuma that resides at the Riverbanks Zoo. does anyone have a photo of this-or know of one on the net? i have seen a few pictures of piebalds in the axolotls- who has these animals-does anyone know? who out there keeps albino salamanders other than axolotls. anyone got any pics of colour abberations in sals?

I found an E.lucifuga in NE AR back in the early eighties that had a white tail. I showed some profs at OSU (OK not OH) and they concluded it was caused by an infection. There was no sign of injury and I kept the animal for a year before returning it to where I found it. It was no infection. I wish I had taken a pic, but I was in college and a good camera didn't fit into my beer budget!

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail.
