Kai mentioned using a timer for controlling lighting a couple of days ago. If you're not sure what to set your timer to, here's a website I just found, that will give you sunrise and sunset times for any given location:
http://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/RS_OneYear.html
This should allow you to imitate seasonal changes in lighting fairly accurately. Personally, I adjust mine once a month, to the nearest half hour.
By the way, the longitude isn't important- if you enter 0 degrees longitude, and 0 hours east of Greenwich, it's equivalent (near enough) to local time.
