Photo request (T.dobrogicus)

Hi, i would like to ask for any of the dobrogicus keepers in this forum to post, if possible, a photo of what an adult T.dobrogicus male looks like out of breeding season. All the photos i´ve ever been able to find in the net have always been of beautiful males displaying their breeding attire(and the rare female), always a joy for the sight...but what do they look like the rest of the year?? It´s like people not posting pics of female ommatotriton hehe...obviously the males are mindblowingly gorgeaus but that doesn´t make the females any less interesting.
So if anyone could please find 5 minutes of their time to post, i´d be thankful n_n

Of course, here are some. The ones with the little crests are T. dobrogicus males out of breeding season. I keep them 100% aquatic all year round.

I was surprised to see mine are looking exactly like that right now....guess my little babies are now grown-ups...

About 2 month after these photos were taken, my males started to develop their breeding attire, and now I have little larvaes growing fast. so...let's hope for the best

I guess there´s a chance i might be a proud dobrogicus´s larvae owner by this fall. *snif*
May i ask you how big your animals were when they started showing signs of sexual maturity? Mine look so small and young for being developing their colours and tinny crests....
btw, big congrats on the larvae!!

A careful estimation would be that they were about 9 Cm, they actually showed signs of sexual maturity after about 9 months or so. They are known to be able to reproduce within a year, though the quality of the eggs may vary. I have about 10 larvae at the moment, which will be a lot more next year, I'm sure. Also, I have noticed the eggs only after a few of them were hatched, so some probably got eaten by the adults.

My males are 10 and 9,2 cm long each, and the female is 11cm long. So i guess that makes them already sexually mature.
Best of lucks with your larvae, being only 10 you might be able to take for them closely and learn a lot for the next bigger batch n_n Would love to see some pics of them posted btw

Actually they came as a surprise, so I had to place them in my natural daphnia culture tank. The larvae keep the culture steady I think, my modest culture is in a tank of about 50 cm, filled to the top with water (mainly due to rainfall), sand as substrate and some elodea. Because I add green water every now and then I had to remove other thread-like algeas as well, but I've been on a vaction for 3 weeks and my father did not add any green water, and the tank looked fine with a steady culture still there and the larvae growing rapidly.

That´s curious. By surprise you mean that you one day found the larvae in the parent´s tank or the eggs? How old are they? bet they are getting big. How long do you think they can be fed on daphnia(or similar size prey like artemia)? Sorry if i ask you so many things, but the more info the better hehe n_n

oh btw...is that male you posted pics of in caudata.nl one of the ones pictured above?
