Has anyone used it? I hate using chemicals in my tank but the diatoms are out of control..

Do you mean the phoszorb filter media? I can't see an issue as it's not a chemical treatment as such, it is similar to a carbon filter.

However, the reviews on fish forums are not that favourable (inefficient, expensive), I would do some cleaning, clean the filter and do a large water change myself.

Do you know why your phosphates are high?

I believe my problem is with my silicates. My area has reported to have high silicates in the tap water. I'm going to be replanting and getting all the algae out, and I'm going to put the filter in a bucket of tank water to preserve some of the biofilm.
