PetSmart letter did some good

Well, did a check on both PetSmarts I had written that letter to: the one had changed their frog habitat to a HUGE enclosure and the 2 emaciated frogs were healthier-looking (although they were still all in the same tank), and the other PetSmart has now put each frog and toad species in a different enclosure.

Awesome! It's nice to actually see some results. Maybe I'll write to my local Petsmart next time I see something aweful of the sort.

Our next big tackle? Mom and Pop pet shops who aren't corporations and thus could care less if I'm upset about what they're doing.

Alright! That's great to hear!

Actually, Ali, from what I've noticed, the individually-owned places tend to care a little better for thier animals, and care a lot more what it's customers think, since they have a much smaller customer base than the big stores. It might be easier with them - I know it has been here.

Hehe...the last time I went to get blackworms (at a small place), I ended up talking to a new employee there who didn't know much about newts, and actually gave him the address to this board. (I wonder if he's here?). He was sure surprised to hear that his CFBs shouldn't be in the same tank with the Firebellied Toads. I only hope they changed it, I haven't checked back yet. I was going to speak to the manager, but the place was PACKED and he was too busy.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

sorry I am having a hard time trying to upload the pictures- I have them saved on my hard drive... any suggestions-the prompts here are not allowing for downloads that way as far as I can tell. Thanks
