This is the last remaining marm larvae from last years breeding. He's all coloured up but doesn't seem to want to grow up, :

Do you think that it will become a neotenic. Is neoteny common in this species?

Is this one from the same batch as mine??? O_O
I think i´ve heard about neotenic pygmaeus, not sure though. Never heard of a neotenic marmoratus, that´s for sure. It would really interesting if this one happened to remain like that. What size is it??

yes Rodrigo same batch. He'll be around 9cm, all the rest morphed around 5cm including the others which over wintered as larvae. He's swimming around with my alpines just now in a four foot well planted tank so i don't see him too often but he's had his colours for some time now and still no signs of gill absorption.

9cm!! That makes it even slightly bigger than mine...wow.
I have no information about overwintering marmoratus larvae and the size they can reach, but i definitely think this one has a chance of being paedomorphic. Keep us updated Ian. Wether it morphs or not it´s a very special and interesting individual.
btw...I can see a crest? i´m no expert at all, but if it was to become neotenic shouldn´t it loose the crest, as it is a juvenile characteristic?

Yeah...i think i just invented that myself...Actually i´ve been searching for several neotenic animals in google and most of them have a crest...so forget about what i said haha.
I so hope it remains like that...
Btw if you could post more pics of it some time it would be great. This animal really intrigues me.

He only shows himself very rarely as he's in a large ,well planted tank but i'll keep the camera handy........
