I have read on the forums that Hornwort is a good plant to sit on the top of a tank that doesnt rely on taking root in a substrate.

I went to a local pet shop today (had to search as two have closed with the economy troubles) and they didn't have Hornwort. The closest thing they had was something called pennywort. Will this work as a tank plant that sits on the top of the water. I have no subtrate in the tank as my axolotl is still a juvenile and i haven't yet added a substrate. I will eventually add sand when he/she is old enough.

so is pennywort suitable as a plant?

Pennywort works just fine and is actually one of my favorites to use. You can just let it float or wrap the base area with java moss and one of those lead plant weights.

Thanks Justin, I will buy some on Friday when i go back to the shop again. I might buy their whole stock:) of penywort, I think there were only a couple of plants and my tank is 3 ft.
