hello, i am still trying to sort out my tank. I have gravel at the moment that i was told will be digested no worries, but as i have found out it is not the case. My axie is getting a bit filed up with some. I have thought about getting some pebbles, like the shiny ones used in the floating candle packs or crafts shops. Any ideas on this? Is this suitable if they are big?

If you get the bigger round ones, it should be ok. But ours had managed to swallow a few pieces of the 1.5-2cm round glass pebbles. If you intend putting a whole pile in, you'll still find you may have a water quality problem with the gunk building up beneath it.
Have you considered doing the permanent substrate that I posted in one of your threads using aquarium silicon. Even if you siliconed a few pieces here and there rather than do the whole tank.

the permenant substrate thing wont work as i wont have anywhere to put otto while getting it ready, i read the silocone needs a while to dry. and with the pebbles i was thinking of just putting a thin layer on the bottom so when i clean it with the gravel cleaner i can just move them aroung to get under them. I want to get a few larger rocks for him to hide in too.

We kept a few river rocks and river rock sized glass pebbles strewn around in the tank. They looked nice, but found them irritating after a while as stuff would get caught beneath it and it just worked out easier removing them and having large schist stones (adult hand sized) and a piece of slate, that we could prop and stack the slate over to make a hideout or just leave spread out (they're similar to the ones in Ianclick's photos of his axies). They look much nicer too, and easier to clean round.

Diannpf, my bare tank is very similar to Ianclick's picture of Hendrix and Olly's tanks. My digital cams on the blink and can't seem to find any good photos on my pc (haven't taken any in a while, apart from the one showing in my avatar).
