I just ran across this recent article summary and thought it interesting regarding the ambystomatid hybrid complexes as they use parthenogenetic-like processess (kleptogenesis) to produce offspring. Not to imply that there is any correlation, however this new research does shed some light on parthogenesis and processes...at least for some whiptail lizards.

Interesting indeed. Would the process be similar between whiptails and other lizards? I am going to do some searching...

I have tried to read all (or at least what is in Petranka's book) about the unisexual Ambystomids, but usually don't retain much from it. I did find a JLL type in northern New Jersey when I was a kid. I like to tell people that little X on the range map was me :p

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
