Hi,
I've had two Paramesotriton Hongkongensis for a little under a month now, apprently a male (since a blueish sheen appeared on the tail) and a female.
The latter recently shed her skin and a couple of days later, black marks appeared under her skin. Those are very fine, winding paths, and I'm afraid they might be some kind of parasites.
On the behaviour side, she is eating normally (just refused food once after shedding and eating her skin), but has taken to rubbing against objects and spending slightly more time out of the water than she used to.
Both newts have larger abdomens than when I got them, but I expect they were poorly fed at the pet shop, where they were kept in a vastly overcrowded tank.
Does anybody know if this is indeed a parasite or a normal irregularity of my newt's skin? If it's indeed a parasite, would it warrant treatment, and if so, what with?
Thanks a lot,
Blanche
