Paramesotriton guanxiensis?

Hello, my first time on this forum. It seems a good place to be. :happy:

My question: I purchased what seems to me to be Paramesotriton guanxiensis.

Can someone determine whether this is a Guanxiensis with the photo's below?
I am still missing a good picture of the belly, but there are yellow/orange spots on it.

They look very much like Paramesotriton chinensis to me.

On a different note....your tank appears to have lots of dead/decaying plants. Watch out for excessive rotten plant matter as it posses a serious threat to the quality of the water.
Also, you may want to change the substrate. Gravel like that is a real danger of impaction if it gets accidentally ingested, plus it traps enormous amounts of debris (which with the plant matter issue can be a serious problem).

Thanks, I was in serious doubt whether it was Chinensis or GuanXiensis.

The bodem consists of 30% substrate and the rest is filtersand (fine rounded sand with 0,8/1,2 mm). The plants are actually in perfect condition. The plant that looks like a mess is Vesicularia dubyana, and is also in a perfect condition,

Nevertheless, I am setting up a new tank for the Paramesitron and will only use filtersand in that tank.

I advice you to use some rocks and plants... They need hiding places..Just the sand isn´t appropriate. Take a look at my Paramesotriton guangxiensis tank in my profile albums

Eljorgo....he was just talking about the substrate, he wasn´t implying that the tank will consist solely of substrate.

I have to agree with Azhael, looks like Paramesotriton chinensis to me. Either way they're nice looking critters!!

They are P. chinensis in my opinion, too. The smaller one is quite thin, so make sure it is eating well. They may need to be wormed, as well, paticularly if they fail to put on weight.

Lol, i thought that "perfect condition" means something else... seen many better looking plants

Looks like P. Chinensis. The smaller one definitely looks underfed - not sure what you are feeding them, but might want to try feeding the little one by hand to make sure that he/she is getting fed (in case the larger one is getting all of the food). Giving him chopped nightcrawlers or smaller earthworms could help him bulk up to a healthy weight.
