Hi there, soz this is my first post, looking for a bit of advice....I have two paddletail newt that I got 3yrs ago. Around about the 13th Febuary I started to notice lots of jelly like balls on the plants in tank.....and previous to this, one of the newts was being really aggressive to the other! Anyway I realised they were eggs, and now they have all hatched, and I now have lots of babies in the tank, I have no experience in this field and would appreciate any help....thanx ;)

Congratulations! Are you 100% certain that they are paddletail newts? Paddeltails and warty newts are often confused. Warty newts are a lot easier to breed. Also, warty newts are a lot more likely to lay eggs on plants, while paddletails normally lay on rocks. That's why I wonder. Check the photos and descriptions here:

It sounds like you need a whole instruction manual for raising larvae, and you'll find that here:
Caudata Culture Articles - Raising Newts and Salamanders from Eggs
Once you've read that, please feel free to ask specific questions. Do you have a source of live bloodworms?

Hi...thanx for your reply, having looked at the site you gave me, I think you are right in saying they are warty newts....I had bought them from a well known pet store ( Pets at Home ) and they were advertised as paddletail newts...funny but I never saw them in the store again .

I'm a complete novice...although I have had my two for just over 3yrs now with no probs....they are fed frozen bloodworms, frozen brine shrimp and frozen daphnia...I'm going to have a proper look at the site you gave me about raising young and see what I can do...........thanx again!
