Hello all,

I'm a new member here on this forum. I thought it would be a good idea to start a general discussion within this Pachytriton-forum.
In this discussion every new member can introduce him- or herself, show pictures and talk about general things without having to start a whole new thread.

That being said, as the opener of this thread I'll startoff by introducing myself. I'm a 26 year old male from the Netherlands. Just about a month ago I obtained a Pachtytriton Labiatus wich had been living in a dirty, old plastic tank in a forgotten room of the house of a family I know. I decided to adopt the long forgotten animal wich was bought as a pet for the youngest son of the family, about ten years ago.
So, I baught a new, bigger glass tank, some wood & stones, a filter and some plants. Now it's got a new an improved "home". After reading other threads on this forum I realised my tank is not perfect as it is now. It needs more water. The animal never leaves the water so why bother to have land? I'm going to fix this next week.

I expected an animal that was a bit dull but in fact, it's a very inquisitive little animal that is curious about what's happening in and around his tank. Also, it's very agressive when it comes to food. It's fun to see him battle a large worm for instance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HqHPFOG9JSo

Hi Ivo,
I have a female P. labiatus that I got in May '06, almost two years ago. How she's grown!
As you can see to the left I'm in New York State.
She is the only newt in a 20 gallon tank with a couple of guppies (that will die out, because the babies always get eaten), and a gold fish that I rescued from my outdoor bathtub pond in November. I'll be giving that to a friend with a koi pond when it gets warmer out. She rarely leaves the water though I have a cork bark with java moss growing on it where she will sometimes perch.
She often swims vigorously around the tank, I think she's very healthy and active.
Here's a picture of her:

I've taken so many pictures of her, I must really like her!

Had a question that I just want to be sure of. My marbled newt is a little over a year old and has started to develop and I noticed that he is starting to swell a little below his abdomen. I guess I’d like to know if they are his testes or if I need to be concerned.

Hello!!! I'm new to this website and idk how to ask a proper question on the designated spot yet, so I'll ask here, I'm a first time Axolotl owner, and my dad used to run an aquarium store, anyways... Orca, my Axolotl, seems to loose parts of her toes on one limb from time to time, I can't seem to find the problem. Tempature is well, she doesn't seem to have any infections or anything, though. And I'm not sure if I'll be able to find a vet in Brazil for amphibians that are in a reasonable distance to drive without stressing Orca out too much

Hello, I’m hoping for some advice please. Our Axolotl is about 7 months old. Till now no problem. Eating, growing and happy. He’s simply stopped eating. Everything looks fine, his gills look healthy and no apparent signs of sickness. He just swims past the pellets and bloodworm like he can’t smell it. I don’t think it’s a blockage either. Any ideas and suggestions for treatment would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
