Pachytrition not eating

help my P. labiatus won't eat anything I give him apart from tadpoles but they have all turn to frogs now. I've tried everything worms, slugs, crickets but he won't eat them and I can't get feeder guppies where I live unless I buy the decorative ones which are expensive what should I do?
 
Really? My P.Labiatus eat anything thats handed to them...Key words handed to them...If you dont hold it in their face until they get mad...They wont eat it...I use frozen bloodworms or shrimp pellets most of the time...They should work...I also use wardley brand shrimp pellets...The other ones turn to go after being in the water for 5 seconds...
 
mine will take a strike at the food and then just drop it. I changed the water today and left the worms in the tank and they have all gone I read a message a week or too back about a newt becoming more lively after a water change I wonder if it has anything to do with that?
 
Pachys are very very clumsy...They will strike and strike at shrimp pellets i have but they get them on their tenth or 11th try...Keep trying...Watch out with those earthworms...They tend to rot super fast if they are not whole....
 
I think your newt was just "spoiled" eating his favorite food (tads). When he gets hungry enough, he'll eat other things.
 
your right jennifer the worms that i put in with him have all disappeared and i'm going down to the river today to get some minnows and sticklebacks thanks for everyones help
 
I wouldn't reccomend using "minnows" or sticklebacks. Taking them could be illegal. I heard in CA that you must have a Scientific Collection permit to collect fish for aquarium use(unsure on bait). Also, sticklebacks got that name for a reason! When I was little, and grabbed one and learned the hard way. I could imagine one of the right size getting stuck in the paddletails throat(they lift the spines when netted or grabbed).
 
i'm pretty sure that they aren't illegal to take from rivers in the uk your probably right about the sticklebacks but I still think that minnows could be fine for it

    Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
