Hi
After getting all the responses about the dry terrarium i started planing a more aquatic set up for my warty newts.
the aquarium ia L 60 * W 40 * D 35 cm.
I've just put them in today after a few days of filtering the water and getting them used to a more aquatic temporary set up.
hope you'll enjoy the pics...

I'de love to hear if you have any tips or suggestions for me

Nice to see them aquatic :) It should be much easier to care for them now.

My suggestions come a bit too late.... First off, you should have cycled the tank. Also, i would have used sand instead of gravel because gravel traps a looooot of waste and can be eaten, causing impaction.

Anyway, they look fat and happy, good luck with them!

Hello Warmstr.

Excuseme , because for me, isn't easy write in english... i can attempt, not in good english, but it's possible understand me.

In my limitated expierence ( i have Paramesotriton chinensis and Paramesotriton Fuzghonensis) i can recomended;

You have the animals in acuatic 100%?, it's good idea. In Paramesotriton i have it's good have a land part (not more big) , because in possible agressions, and one ind. dominated, for other newt, the situation are very stressed, and go to land it's a posible temporality solution for this newt. Paramesotriton in land are very hard newt, not problem for eat (one example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GbPwSTGZak ) . But you can have this newts in water it's better, than in land.

The acuarium; I think you have not more Hidden points for the newts,it's MORE IMPORTANT!!!! Paramesotriton for me, like a "especially" acuarium.

-The Paramesotriton , not spend many time and energy in swim ( or not more time..) this newts "walk" for the acuarium, in the stones, plants, etc.... for example more diferent than Cynops. In my acuarium for Cynops i like have big "free areas" for newts slim, in Paramesotriton NO.

-In the foto you have 5 stones, i recomended 10 o 15(!!) and created "Chaos stones" specially important in the inferior part of the tank, the stones created more hided, and Paramesotritons love this, for me it's more important!!! You have 1 or 4 hidden points the newt ever stay at this, you have more hidden points, newts surprise you!! More people think not have stones in the tank, for see the newt easiously, but in Paramesotriton i think isn't good idea. He love stay many hours in a hidden ( but look all acuarium).

- Natural plants,it's important!!!! Paramesotriton love walk across the plants, like very much Java moss or like plants,..... it's important have many plants, more parts of acuarium, newt only walk, you have plants the newt stay many many time hidden in the plants. Plants, plants plants......

Stones and plants, descended the agression.

Paramesotriton not like anything the hard light, it's important you don't have many light, or the newts only are activiously in the night..... Lemna minor for example it's good for descendent the light.

In conclusion, in my opinion more stones, more plants, more hidden points!!!

Good bye

Azahel, i cycled the water for almost a week before putting the newts in.
only the substrate and water. and after putting the rock and plats, i cycled it for two more days,
so i hope it was enough...

and PereJosa, mucho grasias por la tip ;)
I plan to add more rocks and plants for the aquarium, i just want to do it step by step so it won't be too crouded.

as you can guess, this is the first time i set up an aquarium.
i have 8 other Terrariums at home for mainly lizards and a few tarantulas, thats why the aquarium looks a bit like a terrarium.
hope to learn in time, i'll keep you posted

A week is most definitely not enough. If you are careful you can complete the process of cycling with the newts in(make sure you do daily partial water changes). Cycling usually takes around a month...

Had a question that I just want to be sure of. My marbled newt is a little over a year old and has started to develop and I noticed that he is starting to swell a little below his abdomen. I guess I’d like to know if they are his testes or if I need to be concerned.

Hello!!! I'm new to this website and idk how to ask a proper question on the designated spot yet, so I'll ask here, I'm a first time Axolotl owner, and my dad used to run an aquarium store, anyways... Orca, my Axolotl, seems to loose parts of her toes on one limb from time to time, I can't seem to find the problem. Tempature is well, she doesn't seem to have any infections or anything, though. And I'm not sure if I'll be able to find a vet in Brazil for amphibians that are in a reasonable distance to drive without stressing Orca out too much

Hello, I’m hoping for some advice please. Our Axolotl is about 7 months old. Till now no problem. Eating, growing and happy. He’s simply stopped eating. Everything looks fine, his gills look healthy and no apparent signs of sickness. He just swims past the pellets and bloodworm like he can’t smell it. I don’t think it’s a blockage either. Any ideas and suggestions for treatment would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
