So after four weeks in the fridge to recuperate from swallowing pebbles Sovereign, our Golden Albino male, made it quickly known that he missed is tank mate.... very much!

We got up this morning and after turning on the aquarium light my wife, Angie, turns all gaa gaa and frantically calls me to join her at the tank. Under seventy two hours after Sov's return we get to watch Piony (our albino female) laying eggs.

While we were out today we ordered brine shrimp eggs and got information from one of our local aquarium shops on hatching them, although breeding brine shrimps sounds like a lot of hassle. We are removing the eggs into a smaller container tonight, in which I'm going to put one of our air stones for the time being.

This is our first batch (is it a spawning?) so we are "a little" nervous and excited by it. Any advice would be appreciated especially such as where to get daphnia culture here in Melbourne (am actually in Geelong, but close enough).

Congratulations.

You can get live Daphnia from most aquatics shops ~ my advice would be not to try and raise too much spawn. Can be hard to keep few hundred little Axolotls fed. I usually raise little batches of around 30 and find new homes for the rest of the eggs.

Loads of advice on the forum, have a quick search - and see www.axolotl.org

Good luck. Phil

I remember soverign, he made it into the paper (didn't he).:wacko:

Yes breeding brine shrimp is a hobby in itself, it is easier to hatch them, feed them, start again.

And a little pinch of dry eggs goes a surprisingly long way.

Also, for when they get bigger, you can use mosquito larvae (which are easily found). :D:D

Good luck, I am glad hes back to normal. :talker:
