My daughters salamander has a very swollen rear leg. He seems ok - still moving around, although he has trouble moving the swollen leg. Still has an appetite, and nothing in his habitat has changed. Any ideas about what is causing this, or how we can perhaps treat?

What kind of salamander is it? What is your set up like; is it aquatic? Terrestrial? Please include water parameters and temperature. Do you know what caused the swelling (was it an injury? Attack by another tank mate? etc.)?

If it's something like an injury due to a tank mate, if the salamander's still eating, chances are it'll heal on its own. If it was injured on a tank decoration, again, it'll probably heal on its own, but you'll need to remove that decoration. If it is something that wasn't caused by external issues, it may be an infection.
