Yes alex i like the yellow coloration aswell but is that a thermostat in the tank why would u need one if they llive in cold water

WOW... great looking axies.! really neat tank.!Looks like all natural plants. how long has your tank been up? do you use plant fert? you must use lighting, how much, how long? Doesn't that heat up your water?
ditto on the heater question from rory.
What kind of camera?

There are 2 reasons why we have a thermostate. Firstly, as we live in England the temperature can drop very low at night (- numbers) so we have keep our little smilers from freezing over night. We also found it keeps the water temperature at a constant (digestion, regergitation and all that)

yeah they are all naturel plants they all came from one of our other Tropical Fish tanks that we have grown on. We havent used a drop of fertilizer as they seem to grow perfectly well on their own.

The tank has been up and running now for about 6 months or so, so far only had the one problem with our Floater (but she is on her own in another tank, whilst in hospital) also going to buy for her a boyfriend and she is going in the new tank (which we all excited about)

The lighting is a very low Wattage, full spectrum bulb. They dont get hot, with the lighting and the thermostate the water stays at a steady 18 degrees, when we want to drop it for breeding its only a case of turning the thermostate off. (We are looking forward to starting our breeding program as to what rare colourations we will get, its going to be interesting)

The camera is Canon Ixsus I about 4M pixel, wasnt that expensive, seems to take good picies of axies

Where do you live in England?

Do you keep your axies in the garage or somewhere cold?

I keep mine in a bedroom, with the door shut at all times because we have to turn off the radiator in there to keep the room and therefore tank cool.

With the radiator turned off it stays at 19C, its never dropped below that without the aid of ice bottles, even 2 days ago when the temp was -8C outside

The only thing we can say is that we must live in a very cold house! We have always had a therm to keep their metabalism up and running and aids in keeping our tank at the same temperature. The thermo only kicks in when the temperature drops at night below the set 18 degrees, if we didnt have the thermo in the tank then it would flucktuate by 5 - 6 degrees during the night and too us that is far too much to upset them by. We have had the tank now for 6 months and non of our little smilers have had any problems (touch wood) so for us this setup works.

that white one is adorable, the angles you've captured there.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
