Oriental FBT breeding questions

I currently have 3 fire bellied toads that i would like to breed. I'm sure that at least one is a male (he's been barking) and i believe one is a female because she has gotten rather fat lately. This morning i caught 2 in amplexus (the one on the bottom being the suspected female) but no eggs came of it. They were swimming around for a while like that and she didn't seem to mind except that she was softly using her "hands" to push at his, but she didn't seem to be struggling to break away. My question is , is it common for them to go through all the moves with nothing to show for it? Are they very difficult to breed in captivity? What can i do to try to make them lay eggs? How long do they usually do this before anything comes of it? He also seemed to let go because he was hungry (he immediately left to go get a cricket.)

I am very new to this so any advice would be greatly appreciated and don't mind my ignorance on the subject.

It sounds quite normal. Some of mine old ones used to spend about half their life in amplexus! Even while they were eating.

Just have patience, mine took a few years to breed. giving them a nice long spray and increasing the water level might help, but don't expect anything.

By normal, do you mean that this behavior is common for this species all the time without any breeding results?

Also like I said, the one I think is female appears to be gravid. If she is full of eggs, won't she have to lay them sooner or later?

Very normal for this behavior. My female was full of eggs since mid-February and she finally started laying. The first batch was eaten, the second batch is slowly developing, and the third batch has nothing so far. You can also try changing the temperature and humidity. I lower both during the day and up them at night. Within 10 minutes we hear croaking from the frog room.

Half of the second batch has hatched! They are hanging onto the glass and plants. They are so tiny!
