So I have a new 25gallon tank that is not setup yet. I am waiting for the babies to go to homes first.
I have a 10gallon that has its own stand(I havent decided whether I am going to keep it up and running because we have a 30gallon cycling for all the babies that dont have homes yet.

What does your guys' tanks sit on? Do you have a "aquarium stand" or just something that holds the tanks weight?

I don't have a stand for the tank, and it it is the main reason why I dont have it cycling yet.
Could I put a 25gallon on a dresser? Thats where I would want it, In our bedroom(It is 10F cooler in the bedroom then the living room)
I just want some opinions. I know it will weigh around 300lbs and that is scary to think about
Any other tips on setting on a new tank would be wonderful! I heard putting some kind of foam or something under the tank to prevent "weak" spots shifting and cracking the tank. how do I go abouts doing that? The 10gallon was never ment to be a permanent home for my axies but this 25gallon will be a "More permanent" Home(It isnt permanent but it will be their home for a year or two becuase its the biggest i could afford at this time)
And I will need help with setting it up to make it look pretty once i decide on the location. I am constantly looking at the thread with "show me your tank setups" to get some ideas :p

Hello ,
I have one axolotl tank that is 3.5ft (with two adult axolotls in) which has been built into a unit by my lovely hubby. Took him a while to build a unit around the tank but he managed it. Even with a few injuries.

I do have a tropical tank which is on the aquarium stand the tank came with. I don’t think there is anything wrong with having a tank resting on one of these stands as when they are made they are designed to hold the weight of a full tank.

If you do want to put a 25gallon on a dresser you need to make sure the wood is not bowed and is strong enough wood to hold the weight of a tank full of water. I have put foam under my tanks that have all the fish and axolotls in to as you said prevent cracks and also the foam absorbs any water splashes rather than the wood absorbing any accidents.

I have recently brought two 5cm baby axolotls and I’m just resting the tank on a draw unit out of the way, until they are bigger than I’m planning on starting a new set up, which again I’ve asked him to build a unit around another 3.5ft tank as I find it suits my needs better. I can have the tank/ unit to the height I want, with the cupboards/draws I want so there is not a problem with finding space to fit the external filter.

Best of Luck!

Just set mine up in the fish room (garage). The 3ft 120 litre tank is sitting on a piece of kitchen worktop on a couple of 6inch by 3 inch floor joists with a stand built around and over in 3 by 2 inch timbers. Rather over engineered but it won't fall down! The tank above will hold some of my angelfish. When I've found and fixed the leak.....

And its on a piece of carpet to cushion it. I found the cork tiles today that I was looking for to put it on. Sigh. Also sometimes use polystyrene ceiling tiles or camping mat. All seem to do the job well.

You could also do the cheap cool thing and make a tank stand out of plywood, 2x4's, and some cinder blocks. I thought about doing this instead of asking my dad to build me something again (I feel like I'm always asking of him or his help), and painting it all crazy and putting mosaic tiles on it.

That's probably just the art student coming out though...

Oh, and if you don't have a saw/truck on hand, you can ask the hardware store and they will cut it for you.

Thank you for your ideas! I still have tons of time to think about it since my babies take all the space right now lol. I have no space to set up the tank at the momment

It varys from floor, tank stands, rack system, industrial shelving unit, cinder block shelving lol

The only thing I will say is do not put it on the dresser. It with hold the weight more then likely. But to many instances of tanks breaking like that. From Repeated vibrations.
I always try to use a towel or matting, cut to size, to cushion all my tanks.

I got a used tank and stand together. It's much better than the bulky table I'd been using for the smaller tank I had before!

My tank came with a stand, but I may add a piece of foam under it before I actually fill it with water both for cushioning and to help with insulating the temperature in the warmer summer months.

I didnt know about having things under your tank before i had filled and cycled mine, so my tank has some newspaper under it and it sits on my chest of draws in my bedroom, i could get some foam but i cant lift my 3" tank to put it under!
My other tank is also on newspaper, on a desk in the office

I put my fish tank on a cheap book case and I swear Harry Potter is the only thing that's keeping the tank up haha. Make sure you get something sturdy. :D
