Not sure if this is in the wright section.

Basically I have an empty one gallon tank (5.5L). I put up a video on YouTube (which you can see in my member intro thread) and was wondering if there is any use for it. I tried raising my ADF Tads in there, but when I tried to move them into my bigger tank when they started getting legs and stuff, they all died.

I was thinking about rearing some common frog tads this year (Hopefully I will get some) but would like something that I can have for permanet like a Newt etc.

Any help guys?

I moved your topic to the general section as it fits best there.

A one gallon tank is pretty dang tiny. I wouldn't keep much in such a small enclosure beyond a Betta splendens.

If you want a more permanent newt enclosure I would say you should shoot for at least 10 gallons.

Yeah I used to have a Betta Splendens but when sadly moving it to a bigger tank, it jumped and well you know..

Thanks anyway though!

Hey :D
I guess you could always have a dwarf gourami...
they are similar to Bettas in care and requirements but are visually and physically much different.

Yeah I thought of that a while back but I'm just not the big fish fanatic I used to be, so in other words, I'm not looking for another fish.

Thanks though!

You should check out dendroboard. There has been a recent string of posts on someone creating a betta tank into a terrarium. It looks great and is currently housing two very tiny frogs. Its under the subforum "Member's Frogs and Vivariums." The title is "Froglet Nursery..." Pardon the ellipses, the title is longer than that. It looks awesome. It wouldn't work for newts, but its along this line.

A 1 gallon tank is way too small for a dwarf gourami, none the less a betta. A dwarf gourami needs at least 5 gal. and for a betta 2.5 gallons is the minimum. Honestly, the only thing I would use it for would be to raise larvae.

It could make a good terrarium for a couple of efts or other terrestrial metamorphs. If the glass is clear and in good condition, it would make a good tank for taking photos (just holding the animal long enough for a photo session). Beyond that, I agree with the others who are saying that it's too small for much of anything.

There are several tiny plethodontid species that would do fine in a one gallon tank even through adulthood (though they might be impossible to obtain outside their range countries). More widely available in Europe might be Plethodon cinereus, which I'd have no problem keeping in that size enclosure as a juvenile or even small adult. You could also use it for raising terrestrial juveniles of larger species.

Sorry for double posting but here are some pics:

Also measured it up; 18.5cm each way (it is a cube). Is it still quite small?

Cheers.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
