well I think that your set up is looking pretty good and I think that it will look better when you add plants, light,THE newt, and so on( moss would make a god addition to your tank too).....well good luck...oh and when you get your newt post a pic of it to see what it is......thanxs

What kind of newt are you getting? This might help:

It looks OK, but here are a couple of things to be careful about. One, you may need to dissipate the outflow from the filter, as most newts don't like any significant current in their tank. Two, the gravel embankment will eventually become a dirt trap. It's not easy to clean out the dirt under there. Third, your total water volume is rather small. You will need to do frequent partial water changes.

Regarding the filter outflow, is this submersible the type where you can attach a piece of tubing to make a waterfall? If so, you could dissipate the outflow by having it pour over the gravel (which would also help prevent accumulation of dirt and stagnant water under the gravel).

that's a great idea Jennifer!

The sumbersible pump does have a way to attach a hose, so maybe I'll run a tube to the other side of the tank, and let it run down.

I ended up with a female Paddletail, so we'll probably change the setup to add more water and less land.

the dark stuff is the new greenery, i need a hood lamp
