My hubby has bought a new tank for our axies, he wants to take all the sand, water, plants, filter and deco from the old tank to the new tank, if we do this will i have to cycle the new tank ( if this is the case it won't be happening) as last time it took me 10.5 weeks to cycle the tank.My hubby says the only thing that will be new in the new tank is the glass itself. The tanks are the same size. Please advise, Thankyou. ps....The reason for the new tank is that it comes with a beautiful cabinet underneath.

As long as you don't clean the gravel etc with tapwater (chlorinated) or let it dry out during the move you should be fine. Might be worth doing some extra partial water changes in the first few weeks - depends a bit on how heavily stocked the tank is.

Just not sure ?

There are 4 axies in the tank, 2 adults, 2 juvies. So i just move everything across to the new tank, don't wash the sand or anything else ??. Use all the old tank water. Anything else i need to do ? Thankyou.

The beneficial bacteria that cycle the tank live on surfaces. It isn't necessary to keep ALL the same water, but be sure to add only dechlorinated water.

thank you

Thank you to all that offered advice, it's appreciated.

Hope it all goes to plan Tara :).

i hope so

Thanks Peter, haven't moved them yet!!!. I'm just so scared of having to recycle the tank!!!!!!, my hubby is pulling his hair out!!!.... first i said ok then NO!!!! then ok then NO!!! . Maybe tomorrow. Will keep you posted. Thankyou

moved them

Well we haved moved our axies to their new tank, kept everything the same except did a partial water change, about 20%. My question is ... how often should i check the water readings incase it has a mini cycle ? .I did a water reading about 1 hour after the move everything was 0. The water is a bit cloudy, do i need to do anything more? Thank you.

Check it every 2nd day, it will give yu more of an idea than if you left it for a week.

ok will do that

Thankyou Kapo, will check every 2nd day, if i get an ammonia reading do i do small daily water changes ? (as you know the last tank took 10.5 weeks) Thankyou again.
