They didn't have what I was looking for at the store so I bought the super carnivore whole frozen cubes. Is this okay to feed to my axie as it's main diet? If not does anyone have recommendations on what I can buy?
The ingredients are:
Mysis shrimp
Brine shrimp
and blood worms
It seems like it would not be a good full time diet but I'm not sure what to by instead.

If you are looking for pellets, you can order Hikari Sinking Carnivore pellets on-line if they aren't carried in the stores near you.

Earthworms are a good choice too, and can be ordered on line or found in the bait section. Check out the company - some state that their worms are safe for pets. You want Canadian or European night crawlers, NOT red wigglers (Eisenia fetida).

I'm not sure if that is a good main diet or not, but short term, should be fine.

Protein is the most important thing. If it's high protein and they'll eat it, that's pretty much all that matters.

You can get earthworms online. Contrary to what some people say, red wigglers are a pretty good option. All you have to do is blanch them in hot water and your axolotls will eat them with no complaints. European nightcrawlers taste better if you DON'T want to kill them first, but they're considerably bigger, possibly a little too big for smaller axolotls. So then you have to cut them up, and then you've gotta kill them anyway.

Pellets (usually salmon or trout pellets) are also a great option. You can buy pellets, I think they're labeled as "Axolotl Pellets" on eBay. Super easy, fast shipping, reasonably priced.

Like I said, axolotls just need a high protein diet with not a whole lot of fiber or fillers. If you've got high protein pellets or cubes of some sort, see if you can get them to eat them. If they'll eat them, they should be fine. Some pellets might be a little too hard (remember that axolotls don't chew, they simply swallow everything whole), but even harder pellets like shrimp pellets for bottom feeding fish will soften up when they get wet.

There is some literature showing that Eisenia fetida might be toxic to some organisms. Toxicity of coelomic fluid of the earthworm Eisenia foetida to vertebrates but not invertebrates: probable role of sphingomyelin. - PubMed - NCBI. Also see http://www.caudata.org/forum/f1173-...rticle-possible-toxicity-eisenia-foetida.html

Having said that, some axolotl owners have no trouble convincing their axies that red wigglers are a tasty treat and have not reported any bad effects whatsoever. However, I can't stand the smell I get on my hands from handling them, and my axies won't touch them even when killed first, so in general, I recommend against them, especially if one is new to axolotls and still figuring out their behaviors.

My axies wouldn't eat those frozen mixtures if their lives depended on it. Believe me, I've tried. If your axie is young, stick to thawed bloodworms and cut-up bait shop worms. If it's an adult, go for bait shop worms and thawed beef heart.

Steer clear of red wigglers. Like Laura was saying, they secrete foul-smelling chemicals, and your axies will likely just spit them right out. Mine aren't super fond of nightcrawlers, either. I've heard that the best option for worms is to either get them at a bait shop or flip over rocks in the woods (just make sure to not take them from anywhere that is treated with pesticides or fertilizers).
