was texting my boyfriend yesterday morning asking him how my axies were and he text back saying my female was grabbing the plant with her back legs and laying eggs.he said there was around 50 eggs (or so he said). i went to his straight after college and i thought there was about 150-200.i got them all out and separated them into 4 tubs of water and told my boyfriend to count the eggs in one tub then multiply it by 4 so it would give us an average. he counted aroun 80 eggs in one tubs and that was the tub with the least amount of eggs in! ive took Gus (the male) out of the tank and put him into a bucket of water and he is staying there for a while till i know they wont get frisky again.lol.

can anyone give me info on what to do? well i know most stuff and i know breeding axies is a case of trial and error and i hope i get it right first time.ill read the axie website over and over again (again.lol.) so i can refresh my mind on some stuff.but any suggestions and tips are welcome.

Congrats on the eggs !

After you read the information at http://www.axolotl.org
and on this site about caring for eggs and larva post your unanswered questions and we can try to help

Separating them out into 4 tubs was a good start.
You will need to find a food source for the young when they hatch. You will need to make that decision soon so you can get supplies and be ready.

Good luck!

thanks

well ive read the site again.there are 2 shops nearby which i know sell daphnia and i can ask them to order lots in for me. id like to have newly hatched brineshrimp too but i dont think anywhere near me sells them. are them sea monkeys u get in shops brineshrimp??? because you have to hatch the eggs and you have to use a magnifying glass to see them. just wondering because ive never bought them to see for myself.lol.

*thinks of more questions to ask*

when the eggs start to hatch i am going to try and sort them by size in the same 4 tubs and i have 8 really small tubs that i can also separate 1-3 of the larva into. the water i put them in was the water that was in the adult axie tank and i topped it up with clean dechlorinated water. how can i keep the water aerated enough for the eggs to hatch without using an air pump.they are small tubs and i cant really use the air pump i already have because it is really strong and will probs kill them.

thanx :D

well the pet shop near me only orders daphnia in every 2nd week so thats no good.but ive found a site that sell brineshrimp cysts.i card use my visa delta card on it so my booyfriend is going to ring up for me and order them. getting 2 30g tubs hopefully and ill set up the hatchery like the one on the indiana uni site.
and apparentely to hatch then they need to have a strong airflow or something...so the air pump i have will hopefully do the trick.

A light trickle of air from the bottom of the hatchery. Too much air and the artemia will turn to mush. You should be able to almost count the bubbles.

oh rite.how will i make my air flow slower and not as strong???

and my brineshrimp cysts have been delivered this morining so im ok with food.just need 2 hatch the things next week sometime.on the site i got them from it says they hatch in aroun 24 hours or so...is this right??? and should i do a tester this weekend to c how long they really take 2 hatch???

my eggs are developing well (dats what my boyfriend says) and i get to see them on saturday night.wooo go me! cant wait til they hatch. is taking out a few syringefuls of water and replacing it again every day ok? i just want the water to have enough oxygen in it.

oh and ive separated them up even more now. ive put around 3-6 eggs into small tubs and there is 10 small tubs. and ive left the rest of the eggs in the 4 bigger tubs i had them in in the 1st place.i also have another 2 tubs i can use to separate them when they have hatched. :D .

Use air valves to slow down the air flow. Normally the cysts will hatch in 24 hours.

air valves?how or where do i get them?sorry, im not as intelligent as people think i am.lol.

air valves can be boiught at any pet shop selling tanks and fish etc. Claire.

Godd luck with your eggs..it can be hard work trying to keep them all alive.

thanks...ill have a look in pets at home (one of my fave shops!!!) and see if i can find a one.

thanks for the luck. hope all goes to plan when they begin to hatch in around a weeks time.
