After a recent reptile show a local lfs has for sale some O. ophryticus in 2 color morphs, light and dark. I did not know that these existed? Can anyone here confirm that one way or another? AS well, I'm considering purchasing them and am wondering if they are of size yet to be able to introduce them to water? Presently they are being kept in a terrarium with damp moss and being fed drosophila and small crickets.

Don't think I've ever seen color morphs for sale. Even in Europe it's very rare to encounter a color morph with Banded Newts. I've seen pictures of possible leucistics but they were not for sale. Ommatotriton seem to naturally have lots of variation but typically stay in the ranges of dark brown and a very light tan color. The variations remind me of Lissotriton, they come in a range of colors from dark to light colors, but within the brown and tan.

What was the color morph? Albino? Melanoid? I'd love to see pictures.

It's not totally improbable that someone has a leucistic strain of Ommatotrition ophryticus. As Jaymes says there is quite a bit of variation in coloration. Light cream through to dark brown can often been seen within related animals.

Definately Carnifex!~
Had leucistic bandeds myself, they are weak and no one i know ever managed to raise them to adulthood.

Re: AW: Re: O. ophryticus color morphs?

Are these carnifex ready to be introduced to an aquatic environment?

They look gorgeous! Being a person who lives in Canada, do you have any trouble as well with finding newts for sale other than Chinese fire bellied one?

Had a question that I just want to be sure of. My marbled newt is a little over a year old and has started to develop and I noticed that he is starting to swell a little below his abdomen. I guess I’d like to know if they are his testes or if I need to be concerned.

Hello!!! I'm new to this website and idk how to ask a proper question on the designated spot yet, so I'll ask here, I'm a first time Axolotl owner, and my dad used to run an aquarium store, anyways... Orca, my Axolotl, seems to loose parts of her toes on one limb from time to time, I can't seem to find the problem. Tempature is well, she doesn't seem to have any infections or anything, though. And I'm not sure if I'll be able to find a vet in Brazil for amphibians that are in a reasonable distance to drive without stressing Orca out too much

Hello, I’m hoping for some advice please. Our Axolotl is about 7 months old. Till now no problem. Eating, growing and happy. He’s simply stopped eating. Everything looks fine, his gills look healthy and no apparent signs of sickness. He just swims past the pellets and bloodworm like he can’t smell it. I don’t think it’s a blockage either. Any ideas and suggestions for treatment would be much appreciated. Thank you!
