ok-i can see underground reptiles selling the tylos and hynobids for the prices they did since they were imports-and even the p rubers for the price (which came down btw) since they are hard to locate now they have red backs -3 of the for 50$!!!! talk about stupid -they are even called lizards??? "great for communal set ups"????- for the ripe price of 25$ i got a permit from maryland to collect as many as i like -and turning over covers you can find up to 7 under 1 small log. that is like selling a eastern newt for 25$!!(they are at least a challenge to find)...........

I think what it boils down to is that Underground Reptiles is a skeezy business and any self-respecting hobbyist should not give them any profits. I understand the demand for kweichowensis and shanjing and the inflated prices that would naturally follow (although what they were asking was quite unreasonable in my opinion). However, their attempts to sell any salamander for exorbitant prices is ridiculous. They really care nothing for the animal's well-being and just want to make as much money as they can. I truly hate the fact that they have found that there may be some sort of profit in the U.S. salamander hobby. I would hope nobody would give them the business and that the company is busted for their illegal sale of salamanders (despite what they may claim).

Furthermore (though this is not an attack on you individually, Paris), I would hope people do not mention they are able to collect unlimited quantities of salamanders. I feel this only adds to the collection of our native species and opens a door to what could become a source of profit. Although blanket laws for the protection of species seem somewhat unnecessary and stop dedicated hobbyists from collection and possible propagation, in some ways I feel they would be better insofar as they would stop the sale of our native animals.

Hey, there's nobody that says you should buy them. The best thing we can do is ignore them and let them go under in their own ••••, sad for the salamanders now, but better for future salamanders. The only thing we can do is breed until were sick of it, so we disencourage them to take animals from the wild.

i think the ignorance of the dealers as to what is wanted on top of health care issues is what gets me the most. this is not the only place to offer up red backs -my local shop got a bunch in about a year ago (they all died at the shop) and the price was 15$ each! he gets alot of stuff from strictly reptiles and again recently he ordered in more 'slimy salamanders'...these turned out to be a black belly and a dusky (suprisingly these are still alive after 2 weeks with no water changes, dead fire bellys in the tank and at room temps!)

- this local shop owner orders what is good prices on sales lists -and like most shop owners he orders novelty items (yes that is what these are considered) to help drum up sales. but a supplier/importer should be in the know that these are as common as they get and are not in any demand-much less at that price.

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail.
