Well, not in Denmark, but in the aquariums.
The first eggs of N v viridescens were found this morning. The groups is from the northern end of the distribution area near Chicago.
The group had been kept at 10C all winter and lots of courtship were observed. In early spring they were transferred to my garage and then experience temps to just a few degrees above 0C. Anyways, the temp here had been steady around 12-14C for serverel weeks now and the females getting fatter and fatter without anything happening. Two days ago I then transferred one female into my basement in a 20Liters at 19C and then the eggs have started comming. She had the option betwin Elodea and Najes but seems to prefer Najas as no eggs have been found in the Elodea. The eggs have been transferred to a plastic tub for further developement.
Now I have transferred the first female of subspecies louisianensis, also from Ilinois to a similar setup in the hope that she will do the same and start a new generation of these beautiful animals in captivity.
