Notophthalmus love their eggs..

For a long time I thought my female noto was producing one egg a day (she's been going steady since late october). Having harvested eggs for a few days in a row now I have to conclude that she produces around 5-6 eggs a day at least. However, she will attempt to eat them if she spots any. Using a transparent plastic egg catcher (shredded sandwich bag with stone) doesn't work as she'll spot the eggs from a distance. I've opted to add lots of plants with sturdy small leaves. I now remove leaves with eggs every day.

It's funny, some individual newts learn to eat their own eggs and some don't. My Notophthalmus never ate their own eggs, to my knowledge.
