Notophthalmus egg, day 1

I bought a daylight lamp last year to fight some winter depression. Of course there are more uses for such a lamp.. cheaper than an add on piece for my camera, that's for sure. This allows me to take pictures at 1/60 shutter speed, which is quite ok for closeups (Nikon coolpix 4500).

The egg is 4mm long.

Day 2.. much less interesting since most of the changes go on somewhere on the inside. Too small even for my camera to show!
10 hours since the last picture was taken:

and 12 hours later again:

I expect more real action again on day 4-5

great photos Ester! fingers crossed mine will be doing this in a month or two when it warms up for them.

Excellent! I look forward to the rest of the series.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
