Not sure if I have a boy or a girl!

Hey all,
Im completely stumped as to what gender my wild axie is- he seems to bear characteristics of both genders- long tail and skinny body (eats loads though!) of a male, and the smaller cloaca of a female.
However, he is only about 6 months old, and he is the same length of my older female, he is just long and skinny!

wondering if anyone could shed any light on this thanks!

Axolotls reach sexual maturity at about 9 months, its still too early to tell!

Some axolotls do reach sexual maturity earlier than 9 months. I was able to sex mine at the age of 7 months. It seems to me that it's going to be a boy, and he'll develop the necessary equipment soon. Also, some male axolotls don't show unless they're in breeding season, as I understand. Since he's so long and skinny, I'm going to hazard a guess that you'll find he really is a boy in the next few months.

I bought both of them both as babies. Thats really interesting that they dont develop male characteristics unless in breeding 'mode' thank you for the information!

I paid £9 and £12 for them, but then the courier service to make sure they arrive safe is about £22 on top of that! was worth it for healthy pets though, the ones in pets shop look very sickly.

alas these guys aren't carrying axies at present

sadly not, Ive noticed they come back into stock every couple of months with leucistics and wilds, and sometimes even spawn!
