Not eating

My N. Viridecens has not eaten in over a week. I suspect something wrong. Whe is a female, used to be gravid, laid 5 eggs and no more. She does not apear gravid anymore. In an earlier post I discribed a floating behavior which has persisted after about three days of stopping. I took the newt out and have her in a quarantine shoe box with moist paper towel and water. She has been in there for a day along with a bit of earth worm (the head of the earthworm, so it is still alive) and has not touched it. There is no desecration in the box. What is wrong? Is she sick or just stressed? If she is stressed I don't know how. Her tankmates are both very healty.

I think that it was a bit of an over reaction on your part. I would never deny a potentially gravid female access to to the water. I heard on this forum sometimes N.v.s get so gravid they actually float, but having no personal experience with this species I do not know. Unless she shows sores or gets very skinny, I wouldn't worry about it. One week of not eating is not a big deal for a newt... not saying that they shouldn't be offered food more often. I would say put her back in a tank with the others, or if you're really paranoid about it put her in her own densely planted so she can get around with her feet even though she's floating. There's little hope you'll be able to get her to eat on land. Unless she's bloated I don't think there's anything wrong with your newt, but if somebody with experience on this species comes along feel free to correct me.

She is thin now, so I don't think she's gravid. If she is gravid then she is way to thin.

The newt is still floating but isn't bloated. She doesn't look like she is able to sink. I think there is something wrong.
