Hello I'm Jake and I'm a noisey bugger!

Lovely dinosaur you have there. I always liked psittacids very, very much, but the noise they make drives me absolutely mad.

Hahaha! Yeah he is VERY loud!

And I only just noticed the huge spelling error in the thread title! Please excuse me, I am ill and a little delirious :p

Hello birdy! I bet he used to be white, until someone bought highlighters...

He looks lovely and a naughty bird:) does he talk to you? x

He can be a bit cheeky yeah! His original owner rescued him from a lady that used to feed him beef burgers, and smack his cage and shout at him when he squawked :( and he was just treated terribly so he doesn't have much faith in women.

Then unfortunately the owner who had him before us had to move to place that wouldn't allow animals, so we said we'd look after him. We still talk to the person who rescued him from that nasty woman, and he always leaves us food for Jake, so his always well fed :D

It's taken us a while to get him to trust us (as it's just me and my mum, and my girl cat, so a bunch of girls here!) We can't hold him, but he does let us tickle his head and feed him.

He makes the strangest noises.... he whines like a puppy, does the telephone ringing, my cat meowing, blows kisses, mimicks coughs and sniffles, and also mimicks our old washing machine bleeping when it had finished a cycle. He says his own name all the time 'Jake, jakee, Hello Jake!' and he also says: 'Oh shut up!' and wolf whistles. :dizzy:

Aww! Jake sounds like a sweetie.

I have a Senegal, too!

Wow he is gorgeous! I'll let Jake know he has a possible friend! hehe! There such cheeky parrots aren't they!

My experience with Sonny has certainly led me to believe they are cheeky parrots! He likes to dance and mimic my cat and my Mum! Whenever the phone rings, the cry of 'LIIIISAAAA!' fills the house  Also, I can't eat toast or chips around him without him going mental until he gets some.

My Dad bought me him when I first started school...He'll be 19 years old in November. He's still just as feisty as when he was a nipper!

We took him on as no one else would, so we are always learning new things! My mum asks: Do you know of any parrot forums?

She would like to know more about how to look after Jake, as we don't know loads about senegal greens. He eats his parrot mix, and enjoys tomatoes and cucumbers once in a while, and a bit of steamed brocoli here and there

And thank you to the moderator who corrected my spelling! :p

I don't know of any parrot forums, sorry. I've had him since before the internet so I think we just had a book when we first got him to learn more. Good ol' days.

I'm not really sure what the optimum diet is, so I might do a bit of browsing myself for a forum. I've always fed him parrot mix, nuts & fruit. I don't really like fruit myself but I try and eat it to be healthy; I usually end up sharing an apple, orange or banana with Sonny! Also, I sometimes give him some salad. Like when I've bought a bag of spinach and eaten most of it, but there's not really enough left to add in a meal...it goes in Sonny's cage

At college we got taught all this stuff sooo:

You need to vary their diet daily.
Greens such as kale and lettuce are good staples so you give them every day.
Then you vary different fruits and veggies, make it colourful!
Some foods should only be given every so often due to their sugar content...
Nuts are good snacks but can be fatty, seeds are good treat foods too.

Alsooo...you can get toys and stuff, which you put food in, for enrichment ;)

Awww ! I love Your Senegal Parrot ! ! I have a Quaker Parrot. Haha kinda close to a Senegal with the grey and green minus the yellow. Hehe, Post more pictures of your Sennie ! Would love to see more ! ^-^
