Hi everyone. I’m a very new member but I’ve been reading for a while now after getting my axolotl. I love my little boy but he was unfortunately a purchase with little knowledge as my wife could not resist how cute he was in the store. I’ve had him for about a month now and recently I noticed a drastic change in his belly. We knew little of the substrate but we had him on some gravel for a bit with no issue as they were bigger than his head. However, recently when I did a water change, I noticed he was very bloated compared to his normal self. I googled as much as I can and immediately removed all substrate in case it was those. I’ve been monitoring him and he still eats when fed and even poops, but the tummy is still there. He spends a lot of time standing still or sitting on plants but I see no other signs of distress. His tank temperature is 69 degrees but I just got a chiller to help get it to 65 hopefully, 7.4 ph, 0 nitrite, 0 ammonia, and 20 nitrate. I’ll provide a picture of him before and after this bloat. Any help would be appreciated but I have contacted the vet just in case. This has been going on for the past 3 days so far. Thank you in advance! Ps. The light was just to take the photo and I immediately turned if off.
