What ever happened to the non-caudate discussion area? Didn't there used to be one or is it just my imagination?

There was some discussion about discussion of non-caudate issues ( http://www.caudata.org/forum/messages/8/2887.html ), and at the time I basically agreed with several people who suggested this site should confined to discussion of caudates...

BUT seeing as I just got a leopard gecko, I thought it's be nice to discuss geckos with other regulars here who keep them. Sure, there are probably other sites to discuss geckos but I'd prefer to discuss the topic with people I know already who share my interest in caudates.

Any thoughts?

I have since found an excellent discussion site for geckos

It's the Geckoworld forums at:

As far as caudates go, one good thing about being a gecko owner is that I now have a use for all the gecko figurines and other misc. paraphernalia that people have given me for birthdays or whatever over the years, mistaking geckos for salamanders. I've unwillingly accumulated quite a collection of them!

I was also pleased to learn that unlike the case with salamanders, most leopard geckos in the pet trade are (or seem to be) captive-bred. Not that I'll be giving up salamanders any time soon, mind you

Hey Tim! Well, like you I love geckos and caudates, this is the PERFECT site for caudates and while I might not have much to contribute I know I will not be leaving here any time soon....

... but could I ask??? In your search for a gecko chat place, did you happen to come across an American version???? LOL! I've got no where to market my perfect pictus geckos!

Tim, now very very few WC leos are avaliable, as they have been bred for decades. They are quite easy to breed, i've had 9 babies so far, and have 5 eggs incubating. The only people who ever get WC, are either breeders who want some good unrelated stock, or pure species, as there is 5 different species, which have all been inter bred. most of the colour mutations(sometimes called colour morphs) avaliable are originally from the different species.
Overall, the majority of the reptiles avaliable (here in the uk at least) are CB, and for many, particularly australian species, they are only avaliable as CB. I wish it was the same for amphibians!!

Another good forum for general herp stuff is http://www.livefoodshop.co.uk/forum/index.php?act=idx
(sorry Sharon, uk based again!)

I stopped breeding my leos as I was unable to find takers for all of the offspring (my best year I had over 35 babies from 4 females). Now they are just fat and happy little land piranahs. I still have wild morphs which over here are becoming harder and harder to find. (sigh, I can still remember when leos were $150 a pair)..

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail.
