The one on the right, I suspect, is of the other subspecies (Cynops ensicauda popei) and somehow ended up in the same container...though I can't be sure.

Hey Tim, you should enter some of these in the calender competition thing going on in the news part.
 
Quite amazing coloration there, Tim. What did the parents look like, were they unusually colored nominates? About what fraction of the offspring turn out unusually colored?
 
Jen, yes, they're the offspring of parents that are unusually colored and that all come from the same pond. I'd say offhand that 20-30% of the offspring are unusually colored, to varying degrees, at this stage of development. Nice, eh?
