My filter has been buzzing alot latley and I am not sure what I should do. I have cleaned it out with hot water and distilled vinegar several times and it continues to emit a loud, very annoying buzzing. Should I just buy a new one? If anyone has any suggestions please let me know because I won't even have money for a new filter for two weeks.

What type of filter? What brand or model?

I would check the impeller if it is equipped with one, make sure it's clean, no small debris / gravels around it, and make sure it's in good shape. Like Michael said, we need to know what kind of filter you have....

It is a WHisper something, I think 360. Unfoortunantly, I threw out the box awhile ago and don't really have a way to check. And it does have a propeller that I thoroughly cleaned.

It's not rattling by vibrating against something? I often put a piece of washcloth or towel between the filter and whatever surface to cut down on noise.

Have you taken the impeller apart to make sure nothing is wrapped around the shaft? Really check the top of the motor where the impeller sits, even the tiniest debris (like sand) can be irritating.

If you have thoroughly checked everything else, I would try replacing the impeller. Sometimes if a Whisper is buzzing, it can mean the impeller needs replacing. Replacement parts can be found online or at most chain pet shops.

Also, it is most likely a Whisper 30 or a Whisper 60 - A 30 will have one filter cartridge and a 60 has 2. Unless you have a newer type (No flow adjustment on top of the intake tube), those have different denominations (sorry, not as familiar with those, but I'm sure you can find the model on a pet shop website). A newer type also uses a different impeller than the older type.
