I was digusted by my laoensis and their habit of ruining my good plants with their eggs. They were especially fond of my favorite Echinodorus plant but their constant folding of the leaves began to cause damage. To solve the problem I found plastic that feels similar: the bag from inside a box of Cheerios. I rinsed the bag with hot water and cut it into ~1" strips weighted with a pebble and bound with a plastic cable tie. I did the same with a thin plastic bag like those I give to Triturus and others but they completely ignore the flimsy plastic. Thick, strong newts demand thick strong egg laying materials.
So far it's working and I can almost feel all of our cholesterol levels dropping.
Recycling is sexy.
