What do you guys think about that product? I will probably pick some up tomorrow at Petsmart which will save me alot of time with the cycling process.

Heloo,
It may give the cycle a little kick start but I wouldnt rely on it, theres alot of these products about and to be honest alot of people on here find them pointless as all you will be getting is a bottle of dead bacteria to feed whatever you have going on in the tank (some claim to contain live bacteria but I have no idea how they keep it alive in a air-tight bottle with no ammonia source for it to survive) Id save your money and just cycle as normal, id also be weary about putting anything other than water conditioner in the axies water as these little guys are very sensitive to chemicals and things in the water with their pourus skin n all that!

Best bet for a quick cycle is getting some filter media and some ornaments out of an already established tank as it will contain a load of good bacteria! By using my old filter I got a 15gal cycled in 2weeks! If everything is new and clean it could take up to 6 weeks but its worth being patient as your water quality should remain nice and stable once the cycle is complete!

Idea: Instead of spending your money on this product I'd get a good quality master test kit (liquid test not paper strips) then you can accurately monitor the conditions of the water and you'll know for sure when your cycle is complete!

Take it easy!

I used a starter liquid.

If the average tank takes 4-6 weeks, then i only saved 2 weeks with the starter liquid.

Mine took 3-4 weeks to cycle.

I've also read around the traps that introducing bacteria has on occasion effected axies skin, some people have had flaky skin problems.

If i have to cycle a tank again, i wont bother using a starter. The short amount of time it saved, plus the chance of effecting the axies health (even if it is a small risk) plus the extra cost....not worth it IMHO

I'd spend the money on a decent test kit, test the water and change 20 % every day and have the little extra patience to wait for the 6 weeks

Just me

It's snake oil. It's at best a bottle of dead bacteria that won't do anything.

Mine took 3-4 weeks to cycle.

Which is a normal cycling time. I doubt the product had any effect.

Thanks for the help guys!

I used that right in the begining before I got my little guys, didnt do a thing and im still battling with high nitrite levels. save your money

My thoughts exactly, if it did have any effect at all, it might have been 1 week.

Not worth the money

Gomez tells me all his little secrets! Hes taught me how to speak fluent axolotlish!

To be honest regarding all this, when I got my big 40gal i just used the filter from my old smaller tank with all the sand and ornaments and it was a pretty instant cycle, just nice stable parameters right from the get go! must have been lots of loverly good bacteria in there, yummm!

+1!
I always wondered how the bacteria can live in the bottle but not in our aquarium if nutrient levels are to low. Same as live bio active substrates.

I know some of it works but they still have a flaw.

When you use this stuff you still have to watch your bio load by the number of fish you add to the tank. Generally it will cycle to a volume of bio load and if that load is not met or if the amount of fish you add is to many it may cause a crash anyway.

The best thing to do is allow about a week or so for the process to get a good start on its own and slowly add the animals to your aquarium so the bio load does not get overwhelmed by ammonia or die from a lack there of. In the first few days or week you can just add some flake food to the tank to feed the bio filter as it grows.
