So I will admit (as many of you have figured out through all of my questions) that I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I bought my two newts (hypselotriton orientalis, is there a common name for these?) I have since learned a lot more about them, but am still confused about their breeding. Do they have to be bred or will they do it naturally? If so, is there any way to prevent it, other than separating them? How do I tell their genders before breeding season? Any information would be very helpful. I can not have 100+ baby newts crawling around my dorm room, although that would be adorable, I can't properly take care of them. :dizzy:

When theyre in decent living conditions, they can breed without effort, without anything having to be done extra to the tank. I currently have a bunch of larvae running around feeding off leftover food and micro-invertebrates. There really isn't a way to prevent breeding that i can think of without separating them though.
And the common name is just 'chinese firebelly newt', heres the care sheet: Caudata Culture Species Entry - Cynops orientalis - Chinese firebelly
