Nitrate levels Axolotls

I’m having troubles getting my nitrates below 20ppm. Is this a problem? My tap runs at 10 ppm so getting it lower then that is NOT possible. It’s a 20 gallon tank with a Fluval aquaclear 110 running. My nitrites and ammonia are at 0 ppm so I know it’s already cycled as I’ve been running this system for 6 weeks. I just can’t seem to get my nitrates lower then that no matter how many water changes I do.

Your filter is cycled, so it processes ammonia to make nitrates. That's its function.

I personnally have a tap water with 25 ppm nitrates.
I start the tank with a huge amount of Egeria densa, Ceratophyllum demersum and Lemna minor (50% of the water surface) and nitrates fall down near zero within a week.
 
To add to/clarify the above comment, the only way to get rid of nitrates is through either water changes or getting lots of plants to eat them up.

    Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
