Hey Joe,
I bought a 500 count of redworms from bestbait.com and I've been raising them for almost a year now. You have to be careful with them though as redworms have a taste that is sometimes rejected by some salamanders. My tigers always ate them though.
They're pretty easy to keep..keep them in soil and through any nonmeat table scraps into them...egg shells now and again to help make the soil less acidic helps too.
As for other worms I've heard they're not any more difficult...for actual earth worms or Canadian nightcrawlers that is. They breed slower though, which is a turn off to some people.
But local bait shops for fishing are always a good choice for a new supply of worms during the winter.
