i was wondering whats the best way to see my salamander at night. the associate at a pet store suggestion a exo terra night glo bulb but since they didnt seem to know much about salamanders i wanted to get a second opinion.so does anyone have any suggestions on what is the best way to view my eastern tiger salamander at night?

I just turn my lights off, wait about 15 mins and have my little torch ready(i just use a AA maglite with a blue tinge led bulb)....granted this is at midnight and I only ever see one out of my two salamanders, also I had to watch and wait a few days to make sure I could time it right.
Someone else may have a better method!

A flashlight works well. The bulbs you mentioned...if they are incandescent they will produce heat which is undesirable. Avoid strong UV lights and lights that produce heat.

When I check on my critters in the dark, I like to use red light. I'll have a lamp that has a red-tinted clear bulb. It doesn't bother or startle them as much. I keep the lamp external, however (like a desk lamp or whatnot).

mine are normaly out as soon as they hear people but the best thing to do is have the tank in a dark place in the room so they can wander out and not be blinded by light lol so you get to see them more.

i waited till it was dark and used a small led book light and i saw her/him eat a cricket...so cool:D thanks for the help the little light source helps for now.
